Travel medications are furnished under independent California pharmacist authority — Business & Professions Code § 4052(a)(10)(A)(3) and 16 CCR § 1746.5. This means eligible CDC-recommended travel medications that don't require a diagnosis can be furnished directly, with no separate physician visit and no collaborative practice agreement. Your primary care provider is notified within 14 days of any medication furnished, as the regulation requires.
Beyond travel, I also furnish naloxone — the opioid-overdose rescue medication — under California's statewide protocol (BPC § 4052.01 and 16 CCR § 1746.3). Scope & Authority
Travel-medication furnishing is performed within California pharmacist scope under BPC § 4052(a)(10) and 16 CCR § 1746.5. Naloxone is furnished under the statewide protocol pursuant to BPC § 4052.01 and 16 CCR § 1746.3. Both are backed by completed immunization, travel-medicine, and opioid-antagonist training and ongoing continuing education.
Multilingual & Cultural Competency
Consultations in English, Punjabi, and Hindi (oral fluency), with particular focus on travelers visiting South Asia, including India and Pakistan — a high-risk VFR corridor that needs tailored prophylaxis and counseling.
